The HDZ is the only compact HD helicopter hoist camera with optical zoom on the market, at only 47.8mm (1.88″) x 49.5mm (1.95″), and just 88mm(3.47″) long, including connectors. Designed specifically for helicopter lift, Search & Rescue (SAR), Aerial Patrol, and Aerial Survey, the HDZ features a 2.7mm to 12mm powered zoom lens, 2.1 megapixel Sony IMX327 STARVIS CMOS sensor and a powerful DSP producing impressive results from such a small camera.
The HDZ offers full 1080p60 HD with a latest generation Eyenix DSP featuring; Wide Dynamic Range, 2D and 3D digital noise reduction, and an advanced automatic gain control algorithm, shooting great video out-of-the-box in nearly any lighting situation. Video is output via the SMPTE 424M 3G-SDI or 292M HD-SDI standards, with an additional RS-170 NTSC/PAL composite video ouput.
Housed in a machined aluminum enclosure the HDZ is IP67 rated for submersion up to 1 meter, making it tough enough to handle any weather condition. The HDZ is an ideal low maintenance solution for mounting outside the cockpit.
The HDZ accepts universal 10-32VDC aircraft power for ease of integration. A powerful DSP allows users to adjust settings such as; resolution and frame rate, shutter speed, white balance, back-light compensation, wide dynamic range, gain level, noise reduction, and flip, mirror, insert a reticle, or rotate the image.
A universal mounting bracket system attaches the HDZ camera securely to the hoist boom, hoist winch fairing, or on the helicopter airframe, and offers easy angle adjustments to optimize field of view for both short and long line hoist scenarios. Zoom and focus adjustment can be managed from the provided joystick-on-cable control, with an available camera control panel, or with your own system through the RS-485 control interface.
The HDZ’s core electronics are based on the HD19 imaging platform, which has logged tens of thousands of flight hours as a cockpit camera, helicopter camera, or aerial patrol camera. Thousands of HD19 cameras are currently in use in a wide range of helicopter and fixed wing airframes including:

Configuration - Cabling & Control
The HDZ has the option for different cable configurations and different lens options.
Standard Model: RV-10258A
The HDZ standard model features separate connectors for HD video, Composite NTSC/PAL video, and power/control. The mating connectors for the camera are:
- 3G-SDI (HD): TNC female, 75-Ω
- Composite (NTSC/PAL): TNC Male, 75-Ω
- 10-32VDC Power In + Joystick + RS485: Hirose LF07WBP-6S(31)
HRS Integrated (Single Connector) Model: RV-10259A
The HDZ integrated model features a single LF07WBR-6P connector for HD video, 10-32VDC power input, and RS485 control wires. By combining all signals into one connector, these cameras can be connected with a single cable for power, video, and digital communication. This camera style can be used with specialty Rugged Video systems wired for a single cable, or with the use of a breakout cable with virtually any video equipment. The RV-CAM-HDZ-IC also ships with a breakout cable allowing for setup & testing purposes.

The standard joystick cable extends ~18″ and attaches directly to the HDZ camera, or on the end of a longer cable run. This cable provides a small 5-way joystick which is used to adjust lens zoom and focus, and also to open the camera’s OSD (on-screen display) menu to adjust camera settings.

Dedicated Controller (Included): RV-10270A
The HDZ Controller features easy pushbutton controls to manage the zoom and focus of the camera. Connection to the camera is made through the camera’s RS485 bus. The controller accepts universal aircraft power, making it easy to run power wiring from a convenient source. Press buttons momentarily for a small change, or press and hold to continuously adjust the zoom or focus. Additionally, a reserved button can be factory-programmed to perform a common task, such as adjusting one or more image gain settings, changing shutter speed, or switching to day or night mode. All buttons can be factory progammed and labeled for custom functions based on your specific operational requirements.
Several styles of controller exist, from simple 2-button controllers for digital zoom in/out, to 8-button + Toggle styles with full camera AND DVR control. There is also a a version with dry contact outputs to use with open drain-type inputs on video switchers and multiplexers.

The HDZ Micro HD Bullet Camera has a built-in high resolution 2.7mm to 12mm M12 varifocal lens with IR filter.

2-Axis Adjustable Mounting Bracket
The HDZ features a standard 2-axis adjustable mounting bracket with 45 degrees of rotation/yaw adjustment, and 60 degrees of tilt adjustment. The bracket attaches to the camera with four 10-32 machine screws, and mounts to any surface with (4x) 10-32 or (1x) 1/4″-20 screws. All adjustments are lockable with the provided lock screws.
In addition to the four 10-32 screw threads, the HDZ also provides two 1/4″-20 mounting threads on the camera body, and a machined eyelet for attachment of a safety line or tether.
Adjustable Contoured-Surface Bracket
A contoured-surface bracket is available for installation on any surface, including hoist arms and hoist winch enclosures. Mounts securely with stainless worm-gear clamping rings and rubber pads, and easily adjust the camera angle with the bracket’s adjustment screws.
A number of off the shelf mounting options are also available for the HDZ, each using the standard 1/4″-20 stud.
