HD Bullet Camera for Flight Tours

The HDX is the only camera on the market that was designed specifically for applications requiring camera switching.  The HDX video output helps balance systems with multiple cameras, allowing for seamless video switching.  The HDX is can be used in multi-camera configurations with the HD29, HD19, and HD30, and HDZ cameras.

High Performance

The HDX features a 2.1 megapixel Panasonic CMOS sensor and powerful DSP with many enhancement options, including; Wide Dynamic Range, 2D and 3D digital noise reduction, and an advanced automatic gain control algorythm, shooting great video out-of-the-box in nearly any lighting situation.  Video is output via the SMPTE 424M 3G-SDI or  292M HD-SDI standards.

Rugged & Waterproof

Housed in a machined aluminum enclosure the HDX is IP67 rated for submersion up to 1 meter, making it tough enough to handle any weather condition.  The HDX is an ideal low maintenance solution for mounting insider or outside the cockpit.

Flexible

A powerful DSP allows users to adjust settings such as; resolution and frame rate, shutter speed, white balance, back-light compensation, wide dynamic range, gain level, noise reduction, and flip, mirror, or rotate the image.  A wide range of standard M12(S-mount) lenses allows users to choose nearly any field of view.

 Proven

The HDX has logged thousands of flight hours as a cockpit camera, helicopter camera, or aerial patrol camera and is currently in use in a number of helicopters and fixed wing aircraft including:

  • Eurocopter EC130
  • Eurocopter AS350 (AStar, Squirrel)
  • Bell 206
  • Bell 407
  • Robinson R44
  • Robinson R66
  • MD500
  • AW109
  • AW101 Merlin
  • V-22 Osprey
  • C-130
  • de Havilland Twin Otter
  • de Havilland Beaver

Configuration - Lenses & Cabling
The HDX has the option for different cable configurations and different lens options.

Cable Type

The HDX offers a number of different cabling options:

Generic Pigtail

The generic pigtail includes a cable that extends from the back of the camera, to a junction with built-in menu control and then to connections.  The cable extends 17.5″ from the back of the camera to the junction with individual breakouts extending another 8″.  Breakouts include: HD Video (BNC), NTSC/PAL Video (BNC), and Power (2.1×5.5mm Barrel).

HRS Pigtail(for Rugged Video Systems)

The HRS pigtail includes a cable that extends from the back of the camera, to a junction with built-in menu control and then to connections.  The cable extends 17.5″ from the back of the camera to the junction with individual breakouts extending another 8″.  Breakouts include: HD Video (BNC), NTSC/PAL Video (BNC), and Power (HRS LF07WBJ-6P).

R44 with Generic Pigtail or HRS Pigtail (for Rugged Video Systems)

The R44 version of this camera is specifically built to be installed in the Horizontal stabilizer of the R44.  A single pigtail extends from the camera to a breakout connection which connects inside the boom.  Once broken out the cable has the standard connections of the Generic Pigtail, or connected to a Rugged Video solution with the HRS Pigtail.  Please contact a sales rep for any questions about this configuration.

Mounting Options

The HDX features a standard 1/4″-20 mounted boss in the center body of the camera, which reduces vibration and stress.  The HDX features a flip rotate and mirror function so the camera can be top or bottom mounted.

Available Mounts

A number of mounting options are available for the HD29, each using the standard 1/4″-20 stud.

Big Mite – is a cast aluminum collar, machined ball, and spud. The spud can be bolted directly to a solid surface using a #8 to 1/4″ flat machine screw.  The collar is then clamped to the spud and locks the ball in place.  The Big Mite is a larger version of the MiniMite designed to support larger cameras in high vibration environments. Mini Mite – is a cast aluminum collar, machined ball, spud, and extension with a flat base option. The spud can be bolted directly to a solid surface using a #4 to #10 flat machine screw.  The collar is then clamped to the spud and locks the ball in place.  Alternatively the spud can be affixed to the flat base which can be attached to a solid surface using 4 x #4 or #6 screws.  The Mini Mite is designed for smaller cameras like the HD29, HD19, HD30, or HDX. Ultra-Clamp Mount – is a cast aluminum frame with a poly-carbonate injection molded adjustment attachment.  This mount is clamped to a secure bar or flat with a hand screw.  Additionally the top may be removed and mounted directly to any surface using a 1/4″-20 screw.  This mount can hold any size Rugged Video camera. Ultra Clamp Mount with Adjuster Arm Ultra Clamp Mount with Adjuster Arm
Locking Suction Mount – Is an injection molded poly-carbonate mount with the same aluminum collar and ball as the Big Mite.  The suction mount features a wide cup that can attach to any smooth, hard, clean surface.  The suction cup is secured with a lever that creates additional vacuum within the cup.  This mount can hold any Rugged Video camera, but should only be used inside the cockpit for portable installations.  The mount is secured with air-pressure and thus should be tethered to avoid injury should a change in pressure occur, or the mount was to lose pressure. Pedestal Mount – is a cast aluminum collar, machined ball, and formed steel flat base. The base can be attached directly to a solid surface using 3 x #4 screws.  The ball is secured with friction by using a winged screw.  The pedestal is designed for smaller cameras like the HD29, HD19, HD30, or HDX Pedestal Mount Pedestal Mount
